1 Timothy 4:12 NIV

God uses ordinary people (2)
Sometimes we can think that God won't use us because we're too young. Our age means we don't have enough experience or we worry that others will think we're not competent enough to do the things that God calls people to do. But the Bible says: 'Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity' (1 Timothy 4:12 NIV). We shouldn't let the fear of what other people will think stop us from doing what God's calling us to do. The truth is that God can use us, however old or young we are. What matters is that we have a willing heart to listen and do what He's asking of us. When God called Jeremiah to be a prophet, he doubted whether God had chosen the right person. 'Then I said, "But Lord GOD, I don't know how to speak. I am only a boy"' (Jeremiah 1:6 NCV). But God replied: 'Do not say, "I am too young." You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you' (Jeremiah 1:7 NIV). God calls us to things too. Whether He's calling us now, or will do in the future, let's not doubt His call. The Bible says: 'For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do' (Ephesians 2:10 NIV). God's given us all gifts and skills that will bring glory to God and will help other people to know Him more. And somebody, somewhere, needs something we have. If we ask God, He'll show us who they are. When He does - we need to get involved.
